Short Biography 

Adam is a freelance trumpet player and teacher living in Longmont, Colorado. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado - Boulder studying under Dr. Ryan Gardner. His previous teachers include Michael Sachs, Michael Miller, Matthew Ernst, Brent Turney, and Mathew Buchman.

Full Biography

Adam has always had a deep love for music. He began his study of trumpet in 5th grade after a few years of piano lessons. His first trumpet teacher was James Neujahr, who currently serves as Fox Valley Lutheran’s director of Instrumental Music at both the middle and high school levels. Mr. Neujahr had a profound impact on Adam and he hopes to show that same passion and encouragement to his own students. Adam became more serious about trumpet in 7th grade and started studying with Ryan Smith at the Lawrence Academy of Music. Adam studied with Ryan from 7th grade to 12th grade. During high school, Adam was very active within the music program. Adam participated in the concert band and jazz band at FVL along with various pit orchestras. Adam was also very active outside of his high school. He participated in many honors programs including the Wisconsin State Honors band. He also served as principal trumpet of the Lawrence Wind Ensemble as well as the Fox Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra where he received the Conductor’s award his senior year. Adam also traveled around the country during the summers of his high school years with the competitive marching band - The Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin.

 

During his senior year of high school, Adam decided to go to Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN to pursue a degree in pastoral studies. At MLC, Adam stayed very active in music, taking trumpet lessons with Dr. Brent Nolte and Thomas Beier as well as being part of the MLC Wind Symphony. After one year of study, Adam decided that he really wanted to pursue a career in music. Adam is still a very active musician within the church.

 

Adam decided to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. Adam graduated in the Spring of 2020 with a B.M. in Trumpet Performance degree under Brent Turney as well as a Jazz Studies Minor under Mathew Buchman. Adam was the recipient of the "Susan E. Coleman Outstanding Senior Award" upon graduation.

 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Adam decided take a gap year before attending graduate school. During that time he studied with Matthew Ernst, principal trumpet of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He also maintained a trumpet studio in Appleton, WI and Stevens Point, WI, in addition to assisting with teaching band lessons at Greenville middle school, as well as playing gigs throughout Wisconsin.

Adam received his Master of Music degree in trumpet performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music in Spring of 2023 where he is studied under Michael Sachs, principal trumpet of The Cleveland Orchestra. Adam was the recipient of the Bernard Adelstein Prize in Trumpet upon graduation.

Adam and his wife, Lauren, are now living in Longmont, Colorado. Adam is serving as a Teaching Assistant as well as pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder under Dr. Ryan Gardner. His wife Lauren is the Band and Choir director at Shadow Ridge Middle School in Thornton, CO.

Adam has performed with many professional groups including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Akron Symphonic Winds, and Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra. He has also been an orchestral fellow at the Aspen Music Festival (2023) and the Texas Music Festival (2022).

 

Adam loves playing trumpet and could never see himself doing anything else with his life.
